Attendees learned about archery equipment and shooting techniques during a seminar at the national retail chain.
Increasing numbers of women are getting involved in archery and bowhunting. The first national archery survey, conducted in early 2013, showed that 5.8 million (31percent) of all archery participants were women and 4.2 million (41percent) of archery-only participants were women.
“We were pleased to learn that one-third of all archery participants last year were women, and that 4 million women were involved exclusively in archery,” said Jay McAninch, ATA’s president and CEO. “These numbers prove the archery market is strong. They also indicate… that target archery appeals to women more broadly than bowhunting.”
The first nationwide archery survey showed that 18.9 million Americans age 18 and older participated in archery and/or bowhunting in 2012.
On social media, women are active participants in the archery community. In fact, Teresa Iaconi, press officer for the USA Archery Team, said 45 percent of USA Archery’s Facebook followers are women.
Cabela’s hosted the archery workshop for women as part of its Fall Great Outdoor Days event, which continues until Sept.2.
