Big news out of Hollywood this week: “Star Wars: Episode VII” will see Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford reprise their original roles with the now-Disney franchise.
With Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia returning to the silver screen, we wonder if bows and arrows – made super-famous by movies like “The Hunger Games” and “Brave” – might make an appearance, too? Given the massive popularity of Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen, we think anything could happen.
In celebration of this epic news, here are twelve Star Wars moments that would be even cooler with archery. Whether you prefer compound, recurve or longbow, may the fourth be with you!
Swinging to freedom
Because, really, you could use a bow to shoot your way out of this scene.
Watch your back, Han Solo
Han Solo could totally get his Katniss on with both of these Stormtroopers.
Wisdom from the great Yoda
We think Yoda would have appreciated “Zen in the Art of Archery.” Focus you must. Succeed you will.
Electric fingers = slightly creepy
Emperor Palpatine’s lightning fingers? We think a longbow would suit him better.
A bow to go with those braids
Princess Leia: tough as nails and equally beautiful, but she’d look even cooler with a bow. Obviously.
The Death Star trash compactor
There’s a creepy monster slithering around in the muck, but a bow and arrow would take care of that.
The Sarlacc Pit
Jabba the Hutt might have claimed this Sarlacc as his pet, but one well-shot arrow into the middle = game over.
Three lightsabers…or one bow?
The great Obi-Wan Kenobi went through three lightsabers – but could he have been even more amazing with a bow?
Tusken Raiders on Tatooine
Sand People are easily startled. They’d never see or hear an arrow coming.
Short draw length: not a bar to archery success.
Jabba the Hutt – notorious intergalactic crime lord – would be a perfect candidate for a compound bow or crossbow.
Stress relief for frazzled Sith Lords.
Anakin Skywalker showed amazing Jedi potential before he turned to the dark side. As Darth Vader, he could have avoided scenes like this with stress-relieving archery practice.
