It looks like Hawkeye has been shopping for new archery gear.
The third “Avengers: Age of Ultron” trailer debuted today, and Hawkeye is rocking a brand new Hoyt Game Master II recurve bow, which features Hoyt’s signature TEC series riser. This is a switch from his last bow, the Hoyt Buffalo – an equipment preference that Hawkeye seems to share with Katniss Everdeen.
Archery sequences in the trailer show him doing some pretty crazy mid-air shooting, though it’s not clear whether he’s taken any archery lessons yet. Like many archers, it appears Hawkeye is a total gearhead: he’s changed bows several times over his past few films.
The new movie, due in theaters on May 1, features Jeremy Renner returning to his role as the arrow-shooting marksman. In a recent interview with IGN, Renner talked about changes we may see for Hawkeye: “There’s always new tech and different things — new costumes, new tech. We got some new characters — there’re good guys; there’re bad guys. There’s a lot more of us together in the movie as Avengers, which I think [only happens] once or twice [in the first one].” Check out the brand-new trailer:
Renner also commented that Hawkeye, without a superpower, is very much like real-life archery heroes: he must be precise. “You have to be a smart fighter when you don’t have super powers, and that’s what makes [Hawkeye] super, in [his own] way. He has to use his mind as much as his physical ability, his ability to never miss.”
Mike Luper, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Hoyt, looks forward to the film’s effect on archery’s growing popularity. “We are very excited to see Hawkeye once again trusting his Hoyt bow in the new Avengers: Age of Ultron, to do what he does best. We look forward to watching Hawkeye once again showcase archery to the entire world in this action packed thriller!”
