ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue hits newsstands July 10. The issue features 25 total athletes, and Khatuna Lorig, one of our favorite U.S. Archery Team Olympic hopefuls, is one of them. See her quick screen time in the last frame of ESPN’s recent video.
Lorig rightfully earned her page in the 2015 issue. Her recurve expertise has earned her five Olympic appearances, one Olympic medals, multiple World Cup wins, a No. 10 World Ranking, a No. 1 US National Ranking, and an opportunity to coach Jennifer Lawrence for her role as “Hunger Games” tribute Katniss Everdeen.
“I’ve been to [five] Olympics and I was the U.S. flag-bearer at the closing ceremonies in Beijing, but I can say that being a part of this movie is one of the top three best moments in my career,” Lorig said in a 2012 interview with espnW.
She’s equally excited about her upcoming spread in the Body Issue.
This year’s Body Issue features a competitive lineup of Olympians and professional athletes, including Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and newly crowned French Open champion Stan Wawrinka, to name a few. But this isn’t the first time the issue included archery.
Will Lorig’s purple recurve bow and puppy Sidney accompany her in the 2015 issue? We’ll have to wait until it goes digital on July 6. But I bet they’ll be in tow at the upcoming Outdoor Nationals.
